Board certified in maternal fetal medicine, Dr. Larry Dennis obtained his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia, P.A.. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at U.S.A.F. Medical Center, Keesler Air Force Base and a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at The George Washington University Hospital, Washington, D.C.
Dr. Dennis leads the team at the Carilion Prenatal Diagnostic Center, which offers complete prenatal diagnostic services to include:
- Genetic Counseling
- Prenatal Screening and Testing (Special Testing for Birth Defects and Genetic Disorders)
- First Trimester Screening [Medical Tests] for the first trimester detection of Down syndrome and trisomy 18
- Alpha-Fetoprotein (AFP) Analysis [Medical Tests] for the second trimester detection of open spina bifida
- Quad Screen Analysis for the second trimester detection of Down syndrome, trisomy 18 and open spina bifida
- Fetal Ultrasound [Medical Tests]/Sonogram for the detection of major birth defects
- Fetal Echocardiogram [Medical Tests] (in partnership with Carilion Medical Center for Children’s pediatric cardiologists) for the detection of heart birth defects
- Amniocentesis [Medical Tests] for the diagnosis of genetic disorders and certain birth defects
- Percutaneous Fetal blood sampling (PUBS) [Medical Tests]
In addition to his role as Director and clinical perinatalogist, Dr. Dennis is an Associate Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Virginia, Roanoke program. Dr. Dennis is also an active lecturer on topics in maternal/fetal medicine and co-leads annual maternal/neonatal transport reviews. Dr. Dennis is bilingual in English and Spanish and is married with three children.
