Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital Promotes Employee Wellness with the "Fit Pit"

At Carilion Clinic, helping the community lead healthier lives begins at home - setting a good example and taking care of our own health.  Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount is helping employees improve their health and wellness with the Fit Pit, a new, 24-hour gym inside the hospital open to employees and their spouses.

Carilion Announces Neuro-Musculoskeletal Center

As the region’s population ages, the need for orthopaedic, neurology and neurosurgical care will increase.  Preparing for this need by developing a comprehensive orthopaedic and neurosciences outpatient center will ensure that patients have access to care in the most convenient and cost-effective environment.

Pending approval, the center will be located in the former Ivy Market facility, a retail development at the intersection of Franklin Road and Wonju Street that opened in June, 2007.  The 65,000 square-foot building has been vacant for more than four years.

Carilion Clinic will renovate the property into a neuro-musculoskeletal center specializing in neurosciences (neurology, stroke, and neurosurgery), orthopaedics, spine surgery, physical medicine, rehabilitation therapies, diagnostics and pain management. The need for these services is expanding, and additional space is required meet the needs of our patients. These services complement each other, and co-locating them in a single facility will provide opportunities for collaboration among caregivers and convenience for patients.

Bedford Memorial Hospital to Join Centra

The Board of Directors of Bedford Memorial Hospital and Oakwood Health and Rehabilitation Center have endorsed a plan to transfer full ownership of the facilities to Centra in 2014.  Since 2001, the 50-bed community hospital and 111-bed long-term care facility have been co-owned by Centra and Carilion Clinic.  Carilion will sell its 50% ownership to Centra.

Dan Harrington Receives Dr. Robert L.A. Keeley Award

Dan Harrington, M.D., F.A.P.A., tonight was presented with the 2014 Dr. Robert L.A. Keeley Award at the Carilion Clinic Foundation’s annual Medicine and Muse dinner benefiting Carilion’s Healing Arts Program. The award is presented to a physician or health care professional who has made a significant impact on the health and well-being of the Roanoke region.

The VCHI is is a nonprofit, public-private partnership led by major community partners engaged in health reform -- employers, health care providers, health systems, health plans, pharmacetical and device manufacturers, consumers and government. Working together, these partners are accelerating the adoption of value-driven models of wellness and helath care in Virginia.
