HomeCare Elite recognizes top tier healthcare agencies nationwide

Carilion Clinic Home Care in Franklin County and Roanoke were named to the 2013 HomeCare Elite™ list, placing them in the top tier of home healthcare agencies in the United States. The HomeCare Elite™, compiled by National Research Corporation (also known as OCS HomeCare) and DecisionHealth, annually names the nation’s top 25 percent of agencies that receive high marks in quality of care, quality improvement and consistency, patient experience, process measure implementation, and financial performance. Additionally, both Carilion Clinic Home Care of Franklin and Roanoke were ranked in the top 500 in the nation in terms of quality.

Carilion Launches Lights of Love for the Holidays

This year, Carilion Clinic Volunteer Services in partnership with Carilion Clinic Foundation will launch Lights of Love just in time for the holiday season. All proceeds will be used to assist patient family members with hotel expenses. This fund-raiser also allows donors to show appreciation for loved ones while contributing to a worthwhile cause. For $10, donors can symbolically buy a light on the holiday tree that will shine outside Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in honor or memory of a loved one. A commemorative card with the name of the loved one will be placed on the hospital’s Lights of Love tree in the main lobby.

Carilion Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon Gets Patients Back on their Feet by Straightening Damaged Bones

12-year-old Halla Roberts broke her leg in four places while playing soccer.  The bad news got worse when the bone failed to heal properly.  Fortunately, Carilion Clinic Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon Trevor Owen, M.D., used special technique that straightened Halla’s leg, allowing her to heal and walk normally.  Learn more in this story from WSLS’s Karen McNew.  

Carilion CEO Receives LifeNet Excellence in Leadership Award

Carilion President and CEO Nancy Howell Agee has been awarded LifeNet Health’s 2013 Excellence in Leadership Award.

“Under Ms. Agee’s direction, CRMH achieved an organ donation conversion rate of 88 percent in 2012,” said Robbie Key, R.N., Carilion’s coordinator and educator for LifeNet Health. A conversion rate is the percentage of times a death meeting eligible criteria (eligible death) becomes an actual donor.

In addition, CRMH has earned the Department of Health and Human Services Silver Medal of Honor for achieving and sustaining national goals for organ donation. For two years in a row, CRMH had the greatest number of tissue donors in LifeNet Health’s service area. CRMH is also the first hospital in our area to have a “hospital donation champion chapter," in which staff will help support and promote organ donation to patients and families.    

Enterprise Cars for Kids Presents Check to Children's Miracle Network

A big thanks to Dan Knizewski, Business Development Executive with Enterprise Car Sales. Dan presented a check for $3,235 to Children's Miracle Network, a gift from the Enterprise Holdings Foundation and the company's Cars For Kids summer fundraising event. The CMN gift will help funded needed equipment and services at Carilion Clinic Children's Hospital.

VelocityCare Coming to Blacksburg in January

Carilion Clinic will open a VelocityCare urgent care clinic in Blacksburg in early 2014. The clinic will be located in the North End development at 215 Gilbert Street. VelocityCare offers walk-in medical services for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries seven days a week, with extended evening hours Monday through Saturday.
