2014 Annual Trauma Symposium

This symposium will explore advances in technology, techniques, and management of the critically injured patient. It will enhance the knowledge of nurses, physicians, therapists, advanced clinical practitioners, social workers, case managers, pre-hospital care providers, residents, and students who care for critically ill and injured patients and families.

Annual Oncology Conference

This year's conference is titled, "Transformative Issues in Gastrointestinal Cancers." It will explore multiple gastrointestinal cancers including colorectal, liver and pancreatic cancer, and explore the work-up for patients with painless jaundice associated with these cancers. Topics and presentations will be comprised of cases from a multidisciplinary team approach beginning with initial presentation. Discussion will include progression throughout diagnosis, treatment options, outcomes and survivorship, as well as the genetics and pathology of these cancers.

This conference is for physicians and other clinicians who work with oncology patients.

Breastfeeding For Working Mothers

Learn how to plan and prepare to continue breastfeeding once you return to work.  Taught by an experienced lactation educator, this class will give mothers step-by-step instructions on what they should prepare while on maternity leave, and how to pump and store their breast milk once they are back at work.  Nursing babies are welcome to come with their mothers.  Please make alternate childcare arrangements for older children.  Attend before or after the birth of your baby.  It is recommended that mothers take the basic breastfeeding class first.

Grandparenting Today

What’s new since you had your baby?  Join in this fun two-hour class and get a head start on being the best grandparent for your newest family addition.  Topics include an overview of current recommendations for infant care, safety measures, how to support the new parents and many more.  This class is offered quarterly and is taught by an experienced educator who is also a grandmother.

Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) Course

The purpose of this conference is to instruct RNs and other interested individuals in care of the forensic patient in regard to recognition, history-taking, assessment, documentation and preparation for courtroom testimony. 

This conference is intended for RNs interested in the specialty of forensic nursing, nurses who have completed the SANE and PEDS SANE courses and desire to further enhance their knowledge in other forensic related topics, law enforcement officers, attorneys, physicians, rape crisis counselors, EMS providers and other health care professionals with an interest in forensic related issues.

Newborn Care

This is as close as you'll come to a baby owner's manual.  A qualified teacher covers the basics of caring for a newborn by addressing such topics as bathing, getting the baby to sleep, understanding baby's cry, diapering, dressing, temperature taking, feeding a newborn, home and car safety, and more.  This class offers expectant parents the opportunity to practice taking care of baby's basic needs.  Plan to attend this one-evening class in your second or third trimester.
