After all the months of waiting and dreaming, it is exciting when your baby is finally born. It takes time and effort for parents to get to know their newborn, and time for the newborn to adjust to the new world.  Infant massage is one way to help make this process easier.  Parents have always loved touching and stroking their babies, and babies love to be soothed and cuddled. Part of a baby's emotional and neurological development comes from the interactions of touch and feelings of security it offers.

This is a one hour per week, 4 week infant massage course, taught by a certified infant massage trainer for infants one month to one year of age.  In this class, you will learn how to massage your infant to assist with bonding, constipation, crying and colic, sleep, teething, and communication.

Beyond bonding, this course can also help with:

    • Stress relief (for babies and parents)
    • Growth and development
    • Gas
    • Symptoms of colic
    • Increasing parents’ confidence and sensitivity to baby’s signals and cues
    • Weight gain and neurological development in premature babies

Our day-camp experience, for children and teens ages 5 to 17 that have lost a loved one, provides a caring, safe environment where campers are free to explore their feelings and concerns. Campers learn that grief is not a process of forgetting, but remembering with less pain.

Camp Treehouse provides the opportunity for campers to meet others their age who know what it’s like to have experienced a death of someone they love. Campers will share memories, explore feelings, and remember loved ones through creative and recreational activities. Activities will include art, crafts, music, games, and outdoor activities. A continental breakfast and lunch is provided.

While not mandatory, parents or guardians are encouraged to attend. Adults will participate in group sessions designed to better understand a child’s grieving process and how they can best support their child’s needs. Grief counselors and volunteers are specially trained to assist those who have lost a loved one. Many have experienced similar losses in their own lives.

Camp Treehouse is a free service of Carilion Clinic Hospice. Priority is given to first-time campers. Photographs will be taken throughout the day (there are opt-out options at time of registration).

Space is limited! Register by Sept. 18 by calling 540-563-5316, ext. 3014.
