  • Why I chose this residency:  I chose this program and have been happy here for quite a number of reasons.  I grew up in Virginia, I went to undergrad and medical school in Virginia, and my family still lives in Virginia. What can I say?  It feels like home.  As far as the program goes, I still remember my interview day and how impressed I was with all the faculty, staff, and residents that I met.  The faculty struck me as engaged and proactive in terms of seeking out resident ideas and always working on making the program better.  The staff members were welcoming and helpful.  The residents seemed so friendly and easy-going.  My interview day was great, and when I was done I felt that this was the type of place and that these were the type of people I could see myself working with every day for the next three years.  (Trust me, this is important.)  Happily, my first impressions have proven accurate.  Finally, I wanted a larger program with other residencies in the same hospital.  I realize that unopposed programs have their own appeal, but for me at least, I really enjoy working alongside other residents from other programs and having them as friends, colleagues, and quick resources.

Thank you for taking interest in our program!  To be honest, I was not sure about this program until I came here for an interview.  What mattered to me was the working/learning environment.  All the directors, colleagues, nurses, and staff are fabulous people to work with.  I am thankful to be in this program.  I hope you will consider our program as one of your choices.  Whichever path you may choose, I wish you the very best.  May the forces be with you at all times!
