It's frightening when an infant or child is experiencing potentially life-threatening symptoms or has been seriously injured. We understand and are here to help with specialized transport systems that are designed to transport infants and children—even premature newborns—by ground or air.
Our Neonatal Pediatric Team travels by helicopter or ambulance to provide expert medical care en route to Carilion Clinic. Each specialized transport team is comprised of an EMT-B (Basic Life Support provider), a registered respiratory therapist, and a registered nurse. Our team travels to 30 different hospitals within a 100-mile radius, safely transporting more than 650 critically ill infants and children to Carilion, where they can receive the most advanced life-saving care available in our region.
Thanks to the generosity of local donors and the Children's Miracle Network, we now have a specialized pediatric ambulance, a colorfully decorated vehicle you may have seen traveling the roads and highways in our area. It looks bright and cheerful on the outside, but this technologically-sophisticated vehicle is equipped to keep even the most vulnerable children safe. Custom-outfitted with the most advanced life-saving medical equipment available, the ambulance carries two self-contained incubator units and is large enough for two care teams.
